Our Future

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo has undertaken an ambitious program of organizational transformation to build a foundation for its vibrant future. The work began with the formation of a Long Range Planning Committee in 2008, and that LRP self-study and planning process culminated in the congregation's adoption of the Long Range Strategic Plan in January 2011.

In August 2011, the congregation entered a period of transition between settled ministers (the interim time), and the Board of Trustees and other church leaders made an intentional decision to use this time for congregational revitalization, c onsistent with the priorities identified in the church's 2011 Long Range Plan The goals for the interim time are:

  • Clarify the mission, values, identity, image of the church

  • Create a governance structure and process that works (that is relational and flows)

  • Educate the congregation on covenantal relationship and stewardship

Within these goals, the UUCB mission and vision statements are undergoing a major revision, using an Appreciative Inquiry process that will involve every individual in the congregation sharing stories and ideas about what lies at the heart of our church, and what we envision for our congregation in the future.

Other initiatives include participation in a 5-month Healthy Congregations workshop offered by the St. Lawrence District staff, and a Governance Study Group that is exploring the conceptual base of governance best-practice approaches in preparation for creating a relational governance structure and process for the church.
