Path to Membership

Path to Membership

The path to membership begins with getting to know the church through participation in worship services and other activities, to decide whether this is the right church community for you.

The second step is to attend the new-member class called Discovering Buffalo UU, which is offered several times a year, usually on a Saturday. In the class you will get to know both other prospective members and established church leaders, learn about the history and core commitments of Unitarian Universalism, get a “backstage” tour of the church building, find out about the responsibilities and privileges of membership, have the opportunity to join at that time or later, and receive the materials to make a pledge of financial support to the church.

The third and ongoing phase of joining the church is to be involved in any one or more of the hundreds of ways you can be active here. You may attend not only Sunday services but also social events; you may take an adult Religious Education class, join an ongoing activity like the choir or Women's Society or a Covenant Group; you could volunteer to teach in the child/youth Religious Education program; you could help out on some special project like the church auction, the website, Family Promise or anything else that interests you. As time goes on you might want to join a team or committee in some part of the governance and community life of the church. It is up to you!
